I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in the summer of 2014, after six months of unbearable symptoms. I had lingering body aches everyday and my muscles felt like they were on fire. I was also diagnosed with TMJ due to my teeth grinding and the pain got worse once I started experiencing fibromyalgia symptoms. TMJ causes extreme headaches and jaw pain that really disrupt your quality of life.
I went to a naturopath, and an acupuncturist to help with my pain. I was very frustrated because I had so many tests done, from urine and saliva hormone testing, to various blood work to figure out if they could find a root cause. They found the prescence of homocysteine and MTFHR gene mutation that has been shown to make you at risk for developing fibromyalgia.
I will never forget how my diagnosis changed the course of my life. I had just gotten my board certification for being a holistic health practitioner, and I was looking forward to starting my own business, or perhaps work for a doctor. I could barely move or get out of bed , so I knew that my plans had to be on hold for awhile. I also started experiencing brain fog and forgetfulness. I also went to apply for SSI, but got denied because I did not look “disabled”, whatever that means. Remember just because others can’t see your in pain, doesn’t disregard how your feeling or downplay what your suffering from. You know your own body and when something is off, so please stay on top of doctors appointment and treatment plans. Always consult with your doctor, and seek out alternative treatment as much as you can as a form of complimentary medicine.
I talk a lot about this in my book and different treatment options for you. I promise you don’t have to suffer alone or feel like it’s the end of the world. I know all too well how hard it is, but don’t lose hope. My illness has been in full remission since 2016.
